- Abstract
Reverend Professor Peter W Brunt was a highly respected physician and clergyman who made significant contributions to the fields of gastroenterology and alcohol abuse. Born in 1936 in Prestatyn, North Wales, Brunt attended Liverpool University and later pursued further training in the United States and Edinburgh. He served as a consultant physician in Aberdeen for 31 years, where he established a progressive gastroenterology unit and made advancements in the study and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. Brunt was also actively involved in addressing alcohol-related problems and reducing availability. He was known for his clinical acumen, engaging teaching style, and warm personality. Brunt's dedication to medicine was recognized with appointments to the Royal Victorian Order and the Council of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He was also ordained as a minister in the Scottish Episcopal Church. Brunt passed away in 2023 at the age of 87.
