- Abstract
Such a universal, yet abstract concept as time shows variation in metaphorical language. This research focuses on metaphors within the framework of the cognitive metaphor theory, investigating time through a contrastive, crosslinguistic approach in three satellite framed languages. By combining qualitative and quantitative methods, this study attempts to identify how time passes in language in a metaphorical context, through an empirical corpusbased study. The aim is to investigate how the spatialization and the transience of time surfaces in time metaphors through verbs in a sample of three languages, with a focus on the following aspects: motion through space as well as transience (Galton 2011: 701). Differences such as preference of spatialization or of transience without the spatial aspect are expected to be found.
