- Abstract
This paper proposes to read the tetralogy O Reino, by Gonçalo M. Tavares, from a poetic key that makes the embodied and emotional metaphor the expressive boundary of logical thinking. I suggest analyzing the four novels that build up that tetralogy from two axes: namely, the aletheiological or true-maker axis and the one linked to the control and mastery over the subjects. The first one expresses the wild ground supporting civilization, while the second relies on the technique as an ultimate device to exam and remove the diseases that affect mankind, as pain and violence. I draw the conclusion that the notion of human condition displayed by O Reino reacts with defiance when it is forced to abide the power of technique, claiming thus the original status shared by spontaneity, causes devoid of reason and chaos.
