- Abstract
The use of remote sensing for coastal features identification along the Brazilian coast is something that has intensified with the new proposals and methodological perspectives in geosciences field. In this work, high spatial resolution satellite images (WorldView 2) and the maximum likelihood method were used for supervised classification of the following geoindicators: dense vegetation (25.1%); undergrowth (41.4%); buildings (16.1%); bare soil (7.7%); roads (3.6%); face of beach (2.4%); and beach terrace (3.7%) with the objective of evaluating the vulnerability to coastal erosion in Forte Orange Beach (Itamaraca Island, Pernambuco, Brazil). The results show urban settlements evidence instead beach face, thus inducing an erosive process. This work highlights the importance of identifying areas with erosive potential to support for public decision making on coastal environments.
