- Abstract
The article presents information on the transition of paper medical files to electronic health records and the amount of data available from biomedical research. The importance of informed consent, societal benefits from medical research and preferences for privacy are discussed. The need of changes in the regulatory and conceptual frameworks of biomedical research, administrative burdens and expenses are also discussed.
