- Abstract
The article discusses various literature and motion pictures with time-conscious theme. It gave a particular focus on James Joyce' novel, "Ulysses," and D. W. Griffith's film, "Intolerance." It mentions that Joyce and Griffith were able to incorporate their preoccupations with time in their chosen medium. Joyce' masterpiece always implied the past in the present while Griffith became fascinated with an alternating time-scheme. Other examples in the arts with time-conscious theme include Giacomo Balla's painting "Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash," Marcel Proust's novel "Remembrance of Things Past," and Marcel Duchamp's time-motion study, "Nude Descending a Staircase."
