- Abstract
The article focuses on the inventions of Charles Chevalier, born in Paris, France in 1804, who invented the camera lens which he called the Phtographe à Verres Combinés à Foyer Variable. Chevalier, also an author of books on microscope, spectacles, camera lucida and camera obscura, and photogrpahy, received a silver medal at the National Exposition of 1827 for his instrument invention. He developed a camera lens which could be used for either a telescope or a microscope, that awarded him a gold medal from the Société d'encouragement in 1834. In the same year, he was awarded with a gold medal from the 1827 Exhibition jury for improvements in the microscope.
