- Title
FIRE ANTS (HYMENOPTERA: FORMICIDAE) ALONG AN IMPORTANT SEA TURTLE NESTING BEACH ON ST. CROIX, USVI.
- Authors
Wetterer, James K.; Lombard, Claudia D.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the findings of a survey that evaluate the prevalence of predatory ants, such as the Solenopsis geminata and Solenopsis invicta, along the sea turtle nesting beach on St. Croix in Virgin Islands. It mentions that such species have known to attack and kill hatchlings of ground-nestling birds and reptiles. It adds that S. invicta was less common in the area and usually displaces the S. geminata in open habitats that poses a greater threat to sea turtles.
