The article discusses the school-discipline policy of the U.S. federal government. Topics covered include the "Dear Colleague Letter" sent to K-12 schools by the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office for Civil Rights in the U.S. Department of Education (ED), the zero-tolerance policies used as discipline guidance for school administrators, and the application of the standard of disparate impact in schools according to the ED-DOJ analysis.
