- Abstract
The article discusses the influence of Roman poet Ovid's "Metamorphoses" on the meditative soliloquies in English dramatist William Shakespeare's plays. It examines the conventions of occasion, address and ethos in some of Ovid's soliloquies. It comments on the type of Shakespearean monologue that reference "Metamorphoses," as well as notes Shakespeare's personal affection for the poem.
