- Abstract
The project of a tower for the parish church of Carbajales de Alba (Zamora), dated 1863, was pioneering in the use of cast-iron as a structural element for a traditional building- type, in a peripheral area such as the province of Zamora. Also an early case of the use of exposed bricks in local 19th century architecture, this tower is one of the few examples of Historicism in religious architecture of the time of Queen Isabella II preserved in Castile and León. This article contextualizes the building, reconstructs its complex process of construction and explores its impact in the architecture of the province of Zamora.
