- Abstract
The apiary that was made in the delimitation wall and the mud-brick house which are in the neighbourhood of Ürünlü/Kite in Nilüfer, district of Bursa has niches tused as hives. These walls and houses that are made of mud-brick and plastered with clay are not used today. The houses are abandoned. The apiaries that are in the boundary wall and in the houses are not used today. Niches were probably closed with a wooden cover. Some holes may have been made on the cover so that bees could get through. These apiaries that are in Ürünlü/Kite represent probably the continuation of a historical tradition. As we learn from the ancient texts from the Roman period, making hives in the walls of villas to produce honey in Rome has some similarities with the apiaries that we can see today in Ürünlü/Kite. It is hard to come across apiaries that are similar to those that we can see in Ürünlü/Kite. Existing apiaries in the walls of villas that were made in England during late middle ages are important terms of comparison.
