- Abstract
After the death of General Franco, US Governments -Republicans and Democrats- got into a very attentive surveillance on socio-political changes that were taking place in Spain in order to secure US interests in the country. Beyond military issues -one of the main themes considering American-Spanish relationship during the Francoism- the Spanish economic conditions appeared like one preferred topic, as it has been disclosed by different reports sent from Madrid US Embassy during the «Transition to Democracy». These records served to both Treasury and State Departments, in order to assess the country risk of Spain at this time. Based through this kind of primary sources, our paper analyze how Reagan Administration perceived the possible rise to power of the Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE) and which was its own assessment on the economic program presented by the PSOE before 1982 elections.
