- Abstract
The Nomenclator Toponímic Valencià (NTV) is an interdisciplinary project carried out by two Valencian institutions, the Institut Cartogràfic Valencià (ICV) and the Valencian Academy of Language (AVL), in which a group of professionals from different fields participate (cartographers , computer scientists, linguists, geographers, etc.), which includes the collection, standardization and georeferencing of Valencian toponymy. This comprehensive toponymic work is possible thanks to the creation of the Valencian Spatial Data Infrastructure (IDEV); Therefore, it is integrated into the Valencian geographic information management plans, in which place names are an essential part as a reference element of physical and human reality. Currently the NTV allows the incorporation and updating of data in a progressive and constant manner, so that it is available to the public at the same time it is created. The more than 120,000 toponyms it contains are referred to both the major toponymy (populations, rivers and major mountain ranges, etc.) and the minor toponymy (secondary rivers, ravines, mountains, roads, paths, landscapes, caves, fountains, etc.). ) of the Valencian Community. This article describes the history of the project since its inception in the 90s and explains its current status.
