- Abstract
The first functional sensory organ in the embryological development is touch: a first modality is thus inscribed from skin-contact and plays the role of a first organizer of the psyche. This necessitates metapsychological revisions: the original impulse is an urge to touch, which the article refers to as "tactpulse." This memory of a mode remains operative throughout our life and constitutes the basis for the development of the drive process. The "cure by speech" is shifted to a "cure by communication" with the aim of re-establishing the capacities for contact.
