- Title
“Writers, poets, painters? Alas, dear Eustace, we have not the vocation”: Brian Moore, Belfast and Threshold Magazine.
- Authors
Moynihan, Sinéad
- Abstract
The article focuses on Brian Moore's novel "The Feast of Lupercal" and its exploration of the connection between cultural stagnation and sexual paralysis in Belfast. It suggests that Belfast's cultural scene, hindered by the Catholic Church and sectarianism, is inhospitable to artistic and sexual development. The article also highlights the significance of Threshold magazine, which brought together important writers associated with the Belfast Group of poets and the Field Day Theatre Company.
