- Title
Avoiding Overtreatment at the End of Life: Physician-Patient Communication and Truly Informed Consent.
- Authors
Noah, Barbara A.; Feigenson, Neal R.
- Abstract
The article discusses physician-patient communication and an informed consent medical law doctrine in relation to the authors' claim that many terminally-ill patients receive too much therapy and life-prolonging care in America as of 2016. Proposals for avoiding overtreatment are addressed, along with data which indicates that an increasing number of Americans believe that physicians should do everything they can to keep patients alive. The wishes of terminally-ill patients are assessed.
