The article explains the benefit of a broad interpretation of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) for the protection of cult victims in the U.S. Topics discussed include the origin and nature of a cult, the lack of effect of TVPA forced labor statute application against cults on its free exercise of religion under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), and benefit of the TVPA forced labor statute to victims who establish a claim based on psychological coercion.
