The article analyzes the 1994 film "Before the Rain" directed by Milcho Manchevski. A plot summary of the film is provided which focus on several love stories set against political turbulence in Macedonia. Also examined are the dynamics of gazing, the pleasures of gazng in both the observer and the observed, and the responsibility of observation.
