The article highlights linguists Hunflavy Pal, Ludwig Gumplowicz and Hugo Schuchardt who promoted polyglot nationalism during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, whose writings rejected the concepts of monoglot nationalism including "mother tongue," "one language = one nation" and "no mixed languages." Topics discussed include studies on monoglot nationalism, Hunflavy's scientific explanation on polyglot nationalism and Gumplowicz's political explanations.
