- Authors
Drakulic, Slobodan
- Abstract
The article discusses the history of Serbo-Croat relations in the Balkan Peninsula since the 17th century and its connection to the rise of nationalism there. The author is primarily concerned with the impact of historical accidents that arise from social upheaval and random individuals on such development. More specifically, the author focuses on the actions of such historical figures as Croatian cleric Juraj Križanić, Montenegrin monk and head of the Serbian Orthodox Church Arsenije Crnojević, Serb noble Đorđe Rac Branković, and Croatian poet and politician Pavao Ritter Vitezović in engendering either a sense of Yugoslav nationalism or separate Serb and Croat nationalisms in the Balkans.
