- Abstract
The article focuses on the identification of women in need of cervical cancer screening in a high-risk population of inner-city in East Baltimore, Maryland, economically disadvantaged Black and White women. It determines factors which influence screening patterns. An intervention was developed to assist women in obtaining a Pap test. A telephone survey of all women who resided in the 26 contiguous census tracts that comprise East Baltimore, was conducted. It was found in the article that cervical cancer screening is not being provided on a systematic basis to women at risk for the disease.
