- Abstract
The reconversion of the Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima industrial state is an urban development Operation carried out between 1998 and 2002 in Barcelona. This Operation is in line with other operations carried out in the last years of the 20th century in the city and is related to the last period of the so-called Barcelona Model. This article aims to shed light on the gestation, development and execution of the Plan, as well as to analyse the effects that the operation has had on its immediate surroundings. The article will highlight the speculative nature of the Operation and its programmatic relationship with the policies of new central areas, and more specifically with the Sagrera Sant-Andreu plan, a plan that aims to suture the city where the train tracks pass in a northerly direction. On the other hand, the text analyses the segregating effect of the operation, which is materialised both in the urban fabric and in its socio-demographic indicators.
