- Abstract
The article discusses research on the origins of whiteness in South Africa. The discussion focuses on a counter-life in South African culture and the perception of a non-self. Topics include the significance of missionaries establishing a Protestant code of behavior in a so-called wild environment and the dualism resulting from a literal and religiously-symbolic darkness related to skin color.
