- Abstract
Increasing demand for food and the abuse in pesticides in the management of pests have negatively influenced the environment, with urgent need for alternative control methods. The use of medicine plants may be an alternative control to pesticides widely used for the control of plants´ diseases. Manioc and wheat are economically relevant plants. Bacteriosis caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. Manihotis and the fungus Fusarium graminearum are important phytopathogens, respectively, for their two cultures. Current studies evaluates the antimicrobial potential of Coix lacryma-jobi extracts when compared to X. axonopodis pv. manihotis and F. graminearum. So that the in vitro antimicrobial activity of ethanol extracts of leaves and seeds could be evaluated, agar diffusion tests and agar dilution test were employed. Ethanol extract of the leaves and seeds of C. lacryma-jobi provided anti-fungus activity against F. graminearum when in concentration 1.5 mg/mL. However, there was no antibacterial activity in extract when compared to X. axonopodis pv. manihotis.
