- Abstract
"The people of Kashipur said that, even if we don't have our own land, we have the option of Podu or shifting cultivation. The green forests will give us roots, mangoes, mahua, sal leaves, flowers and seeds, hill brooms and firewood". Against this backdrop the study seeks to analyze the Rethinking Satyagraha in the context of Environmental movement in India revolving around livelihood and displacement which lead to poverty, starvation and diarrhea deaths in Kashipur block of Rayagada District in Odisha. Peoples' protest against the establishment of mining industry in that locality revolves around Jal, Jamin and Jangal (water, land, and forests). All these natural resources are the only source of their livelihood, meanwhile, it also looks at the extent to which people are losing their basic rights on traditional livelihood due to the process of industrialization and development.
