- Abstract
Joachim Dolezik examined the development of the just war in international law in his legal dissertation "Narratives on the Just War in International Law." He considers eight major narratives on the relationship between war and international law, starting from Hugo Grotius up to the present. Dolezik argues that the idea of a just war cannot simply be separated from international law and that value systems go beyond positive international law. He questions simplifying generalizations and highlights normative pluralism in the history of international relations. Although the study has some methodological criticisms, it provides interdisciplinary impulses for the current discussion on the just war in international law.
