- Abstract
Kinship, which makes possible social and cultural existence of man who is both social and cultural being is an organic structure. There are some kind of intimacies named fictive ones alongside kinships those are based on blood and marriage. In traditional societies, people's lives are primarily based on verbal agreements. The sisterhood ties as cooperation institutions which are formed among women in Turkish culture, have an important place in the social life. The sisterhood institutions such as "ahretlik", "örüden tutma kardaş", "süt kardeşliği" are not based on real kinship and are formed through the verbal agreements and rituals among women. The aim of this study is to discuss the sisterhood ties formed among women in Turkish and to point out the similarities of them in the framework of Turkish cultural ecology.
