- Title
THE PROSE POEM AS PUZZLE: LETTER PATTERNS IN RIMBAUD'S "MYSTIQUE".
- Authors
BORDEAU, CATHERINE
- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented of Arthur Rimbaud's prose poem "Mystique." It addresses the general question as to whether Rimbaud's "Illuminations" are meant as puzzles, and analyzes "Mystique" in particular. It notes examples of palindromic and anagrammatic letter patterns. These are shown to be a foundation of the poetic form in prose. The challenging aspect of understanding these patterns is noted.
