- Authors
May, Diane; Bjorke, JoEll
- Abstract
The article provides the background and an overview of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA) in the U.S. It determines some of the issues and the relevance of employer, genetic researcher, employer, and consumer with regards to the legislation. GINA forbids health insurers to use information in making coverage or enrollment decisions, require individuals to offer genetic information, and request an individual to have a genetic test. It exempts prohibition against request for genetic tests for research carried out by health insurers with the other entities.
