- Abstract
The adsorption of dye methylene blue byJuncus effusushas been investigated at 15, 25, and 35°C temperatures. The influences of the uptake conditions were tested including the initial dye concentration, aqueous pH, and temperature. The adsorption kinetics was described by the different models, such as pseudo-first-order, the pseudo-second-order, and the Elovich. The results showed that the kinetic data were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy change (ΔH), entropy change (ΔS), and free energy change (ΔG) were evaluated to predict the nature of adsorption. The calculated values of ΔH, ΔS,and ΔGfor uptake of MB were 39.77 kJ/mol, 135.885 J/mol K, and −2.082 kJ/mol, respectively. This indicated the endothermic and spontaneous nature of the adsorption process. Linear form of Langmuir isotherm model can well agree with the experiment data, and the maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 117.93 mg/g at 35°C.
