PARRY, WILLIAM T.
- Abstract
The article discusses the use of oolite limestone from Sanpete County, Utah, in the construction of private and public buildings in the late 19th century and early 20th century. According to the article, oolite limestone was popular because of its cream color, the ease of quarrying the stone, and its durability. The article discusses the geological conditions of the Sanpete Valley in Sanpete County that formed oolite limestone and the stone's texture, mineralogy, and chemical composition. The article also examines oolite limestone quarries in Ephraim, Utah, Spring City, Utah, and Manti, Utah. The article discusses the use of oolite limestone in buildings such as the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., the Manti LDS Temple, and the Spring City LDS Chapel.
