- Title
Engineering Challenges of Protein Formulations.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses the challenges brought by protein-based pharmaceuticals. It is pointed out that therapeutic proteins must be chemically and conformationally pure and must remain so during the drug's entire shelf-life and delivery to patients. The mechanisms that cause the degradation of proteins are classified as physical or chemical degradation pathways. The advances in proteomics, development of humanized monoclonal antibodies and rapid drug candidate screening have led to a number of proteins that are under development as possible therapeutics.
