- Title
The Bachelors.
- Authors
Stevens, Dana
- Abstract
The article is adapted from one appearing first in the online journal, Slate.com, and discusses the portrayal of gays in reality television. The author states that gay men are not allowed to define themselves as loving other men, but exist to add some quality of sophistication to heterosexual lives, as is the theme in "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". Other examples are discussed, including "Boy Meets Boy," "Playing It Straight," and "The Bachelor," which suggest gay men are boobie prizes. The author's opinion is that these programs show heterosexual America's collective guilt and not the reality of a gay subculture.
