- Abstract
"The Problem of Property. Taking the Freedom of Nonowners Seriously" by Karl Widerquist is a thought-provoking book that explores the concept of property and its impact on freedom. Widerquist argues that private property can only be justified if property owners obtain consent from and provide compensation to nonowners, as appropriation of assets limits the freedom of nonowners. He proposes a universal basic income (UBI) as a way to compensate nonowners and offer greater individual freedom. However, there are some points of discussion, including the definition of property, the fairness of the current system, and the suitability of UBI as a solution.
