- Abstract
For achieving the goal of sustainable development strategy launched by the China government, many new technologies have been taken into consideration to make the harmony between human and environmental factors. Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) has emerged as a cleaner and higher efficiency power generation system, which can reduce the air pollution caused by the power plants with the materials of coal. Further improvements on IGCC to promote its efficiency is an important task. In this study, the air separation unit and the power generation combined cycle in an IGCC power plant base case is optimized by pinch analysis. By monitoring and modifying heat exchange units and orders throughout the whole life cycle of the units, the optimization aims to reduce excess heat loss, eventually lowering coal flow rate and increasing efficiency. The final optimized model shows a 4% increase in thermal efficiency compared to the base case.
