- Title
THE MAROONS OF JAMAICA.
- Abstract
This article presents information about the special Musgrave Award given to the Maroons of Jamaica for distinguished efforts in the field of national cultural development. The article explains that the original Jamaican Maroons were ex-slaves or descendants of enslaved Africans who had been brought to Jamaica by the Spaniards. These people had escaped to remote areas of the island and had intermixed with the Taino population. The Tainos had escaped from Spanish genocidal oppression. The Maroon population has been credited with leading the fight against enslavement in Jamaica.
