- Abstract
In this article the author discusses the applications of green fluorescent protein (GFP) in photonics. According to the author, GFP, which was discovered in 1962 by the Japanese scientist Osamu Shimomura, can be used for the three-dimensional imaging of cells. During his research, Shimomura discovered a protein that exhibited strong green fluorescence when irradiated with ultraviolet light, which he termed as GFP.
