- Title
PETROLEUM V. NASBY, POET OF DEMOCRACY, AND HIS 'PSALM OF GLADNESS'.
- Authors
Miller, Jon
- Abstract
The article offers poetry criticism of the poem "Psalm of Gladness," by David Ross Locke. The author attacks his political opponents by pretending to speak for them in the voice of Nasby, the character who was presented as their leader. The use of "I am" to begin a litany of lines to identify Nasby with men of different occupations is explained. The author provides a critical interpretation of the Nasby letters and its insensitivity to the feelings and opinions of Republican partisans.
