- Title
AN OVERVIEW OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF AMERICANS AND THEIR ATTITUDES TOWARDS MILITARY ISSUES.

- Abstract
We examine attitudes and perceptions of Americans towards minorities in the military, opportunities for minorities in the military, the quality of the military, obligations to serve, and fiscal support for the military. Our general findings are that veteran status, age, and living in the South are positively related to support for the military while education is negatively related. Race and income have little effect on attitudes towards the military. We discuss the implications of our results for future support of the military by Americans and for future scholarly research on the military.
