- Abstract
The article presents a report published by the Australian Institute of Criminology concerning the impact of encounters with a white-dominated criminal justice system to Aboriginals' adulthood experiences with imprisonment in Australia. It discusses the structure of Aboriginal families and communities devastated by violence involving alcohol with mistrust and hostility towards white justice redressing for injuries that result from violence and sought through vengeance. It suggests that improvement of the quality of Aboriginal life is a significant prerequisite for changing the situation. Moreover, efforts in supporting economic, social, and legal advancement for Aboriginal people such as re-empowering them in numerous areas of crime prevention and justice administration are also noted.
