- Title
Thoreau's Hunting Ethos: Teaching Right Natural Relations in Modern America.
- Authors
Stoneham, Michael
- Abstract
The article discusses the hunting ethos of the late author, poet and philosopher Henry David Thoreau, and how it can influence Modern Hunter Safety courses that present nature as a site where one can discover wildlife, but not as one that depends on a sound misunderstanding of life forms. The author notes that although the antidote offered by Thoreau to these pedagogical programs, are done with nuance and subtlety, his message is seen in his works including "Walden," and "Chesuncook."
