Parabola Nation; or, the Power of Disparate Things.
- Authors
Chura, Patrick
- Abstract
The article argues on the essay "Walking" by Henry David Thoreau. It discusses a parabola as a symbolical shape of Thoreau's sauntering journey which has national and personal importance that interprets Manifest Destiny. It notes that the parabola is a U-shaped curve which is equidistant from a fixed line known as the directrix. It also explores architect and designer Eero Saarinen's solution to the problem of spatially representing a national narrative which was identical to Thoreau's essay.
