- Title
URBAN MANAGER ROLES IN THE '70'S.
- Authors
Henry, Charles T.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the role and responsibilities of urban manager in the 70's and discusses national priorities and problems. In defining the role of the urban manager in the 70s, one might first attempt to define the key problem areas of urban America, the probable types of remedial actions and the priorities for such, and then look at possible urban manager involvements. Nevertheless, as the nation must plan ahead, despite presently inadequate predictive tools, prominent leaders and able thinkers both within and without government are directing many serious attempts at determining national priorities. One such effort to chart future courses has been undertaken by a group called the Fund for the New Priorities of America. Robert L. Heilbroner of the New School in New York recently presented his views for this group's consideration. As a representative of the academic community, Heilbroner may naturally point to the universities as the center of the nation-saving process; just as city managers may tend to single out their group as a logical focus for such a role in cities.
