- Title
Performance and the Political Police: The Cuban Short Circuit.
- Authors
Lazo, Orlando Luis Pardo
- Abstract
The article discusses the artistic communities in Cuba, and how they exist as a form of political revolt against the regime. It states that Cuba is totalitarian, and its regime frowns on any form of criticism or dissent, resulting in the imprisonment of many writers and artists. Regardless of the consequences, however, art collectives like Amistad manage to survive. In September 2010, Amistad even staged a public demonstration called "One Square Meter of Freedom" in Havana, where attendees expressed their hopes and fears about their government.
