- Abstract
This paper presents an efficient aerodynamic shape optimization (ASO) method with the metric-based Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) parameterization method. The efficiency of the ASO method is improved by reduced design variables and narrowed design space which both benefit from metric-based POD parameterization method. In addition, the parameterization method is also modified to be suitable to more types of objective functions by introducing data-based filtering strategy. Data-based filtering strategy filters superior data set for metric-based POD on the basis of labels of data which are related to the objective functions in the paper. The efficiency and effect of the optimization method are validated by two typical cases: inverse and direct design for airfoil. The results show that, only considering optimization process, the efficiency of the two cases is all improved with a little difference among the optimums; when it comes to the total process taking data-based filtering strategy into account, the efficiency of the direct design case is a little less than the reference, which means the efficiency of data-based filtering strategy should be improved on further study.
