- Title
Inquiry Sessions: An Assist for Teaching Science via Instructional Television in the Elementary Schools.
- Authors
Skinner Jr., Ray
- Abstract
The article evaluates the use of instructional television formats to assist science teaching in the elementary schools. There were two television formats presented, the direct explanation format and the unanswered questions format. Facts, information and problem solutions were presented in the first format while in the second format, students were left by the television instructor with unanswered questions. After each lesson, two types of teachers' follow-up were used, which is the typical discussion and inquiry session. The findings indicated that unanswered question format had a positive effect to science achievement which is ascribed to the combination of the lesson and the teacher follow-up either typical or discussion oriented.
