- Abstract
Colorectal cancer is becoming an increasingly important public health problem in Turkey and around the world due to its high incidence, prevalence as well as the risk of life-threatening and high costs of its treatment. In order to be able to diagnose colorectal cancer at an early stage, cancer screenings are performed. The study, is aimed to evaluate the strategies included in colorectal cancer (CRC) screening and the cost-effectiveness of no screening. In addition, Tornado analysis was conducted to measure how sensitive the cost and effectiveness outputs were to the model parameters. As a result of the costeffectiveness analysis, "annually fecal occult blood test (FOB)" was found to be the lowest (638 TL) cost and "colonoscopy every 10 years" was the highest (2.150 TL) cost for 25-year per capita costs. When the life years gained are examined, the most effective strategy with 21.98 life years is "annually FOB and colonoscopy every 10 years"; with 21.87 life years, the least effective strategy seems to be the "no screening" strategy. According to the additional cost-effectiveness ratio calculated according to the total cost and life years gained, the strategies of "annually FOB" and "annually FOB and a 10-year colonoscopy" were found to be cost-effective. In the case of the implementation of the "annually FOB" strategy, which is the most cost-effective strategy, in Turkey, cost savings will be achieved in the general government budget, as seen in both the cost-effectiveness analysis findings and the expenditure calculations.
