- Title
George Steiner and the Quest for Mystical Union.
- Authors
Majmudar, Amit
- Abstract
The article discusses the work of the literary critic George Steiner, with particular attention paid to what the author describes as his pursuit of "mystical union," or the loss of the self through total engagement in works of literature. The author compares this union to that described by followers of mystical religious traditions, and offers his opinion that contemporary literary criticism is lacking due to increasing specialization and lack of emphasis on unifying experiences.
