- Abstract
Heyde syndrome is defined as the association between digestive hemorrhage secondary to gastrointestinal angiodysplasia and aortic stenosis. Angiodysplasia is a degenerative disease of the intestinal mucosa with vascular malformations. Although the precise etiology is unknown, it is related to an acquired von Willebrand factor deficiency. Some authors described that low cardiac output caused by aortic stenosis would cause intestinal mucosa ischemia, favoring bleeding from angiodysplasias. We will discuss two representative cases of this syndrome along with endoscopic treatment, while we synthesize these entities pathophysiological implications. This way, the reader will be able to correctly diagnose and give definite treatment
